Pretty Poem

posted in Bloggage on 09/29/05 at 04:09 PM

My sister sent me this in an e-mail and I thought it was pretty and I wanted to share. It’s not that long so don’t worry, it won’t take too much time to read. :1:

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

“Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?”

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
“No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can’t always be a saint.

I’ve had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I’ve been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn’t mine to keep…
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I’ve wept unmanly tears.

I know I don’t deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn’t be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

“Step forward now, you soldier,
You’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets,
You’ve done your time in Hell.”

Hey Aeyrn-
Thanks for your super sweet words on my blog site! I’ve snuck around your site before (you and Lori are famous!!). It’s amazing what we have been through at our ages. I know I’m stronger that I realized and sure you have found out the same. But I could sure do without the pain of surgery and port-a-cath and I’m anxious about chemo/radiation… I’ve gotten a lot of help and comfort just from reading the experiences of others. I know I can get through it just as you did and as Lori is doing now. http://www.aeryn.org/emotic... We’re tough!!

I have also found out that I am much stronger than I thought. lol What a way to find out, huh? :21:

I went through 26 rounds of external radiation and 6 rounds of internal radiation so trust me, it’s not that bad. lol Radiation was the EASY part for me. I HATED chemo. It didn’t hurt or anything like that it’s just that I get freaked out by an IV. :4:

Chemo will make you nautious, and can make your mouth sore. It will change your tastes so do NOT eat any hot/warm meat. Always eat it cold, trust me on this. Also, very tart things are good, like green apples. Radiation can give you a sunburn and bowel problems. lol They will BOTH make you tired and weak. just remember, if you EVER want to talk then just let me know! We can e-mail or I can call on the phone. Good luck! :1:
