It’s been a while

posted in Cancer Sucks! on 05/04/05 at 08:05 PM

Have you been wondering where I have been? Well, get off my back, man! Give this white girl a break. I mean, I do have cancer! :) Hopefully not for much longer. Seriously, sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I just haven’t felt quite like myself lately. So here is my fabulous update!

I went and had my chemo today, my radiation as well as a “G-Shot” to boost my white blood cell count. That is a given after the chemo and I am lucky enough to have to get another lovely shot again tomorrow. This was my 3rd one. Didi I mention that you get the shot in your belly and that it stings like hell during but also for a while afterwards too? It makes for a lovely few hours. Oh well! There is good news… I only have ONE more chemo left! After next Wednesday I should have no more chemo! Please, pray that i won’t need anymore. There is the chance I will need more, but I am trying to be positive. :)

Another good thing was that I didn’t cry today! Yay me! I always cry when I have to get poked with a needle and every Wed., before my chemo they take some blood. Well, I didn’t cry for that! Believe me, it hurts like hell when they put the needle in my port-a-cath but I didn’t cry!! I’ll have to post a pic of what they stick me with. It’s the weirdest looking thing. I also didn’t cry when I got the G-Shot. I rock! You should send me money, I did so good today! :) Or at least pray for me. Your support and prayers have really helped get me through all this. :) Thank you all!

One thing that really sucks about all this is that since I am sick and my white cell count is down I can’t really be around many people and there are many important days ahead, and soon! Two of my friends are getting married and one is graduating high school! Not to mention Mother’s Day this sunday. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I want to go but I also don’t want to get any sicker than I already am. Maybe I should just get one of those masks the doctors wear in surgery. You know, like the one Michael Jackson wears sometimes. I guess I will have to just wait and see how it all goes.

This is my depressing life which isn’t quite as depressing since I was put on Paxil, an antidepressant, and Xanax. :) Now everything is just shits and giggles! That reminds me that I need to take my Imodium. So how are you? What’s new in your life? I honestly want to know! :) Humor me at least with some type of answer. ;)

I’m ok I guess, thanks for asking! I’m drinking some scotch, grinding my teeth, losing my hair and staying up way too late.. 15 days left at my job. I just saw Kung-Fu Hustle, you should rent it when it comes out on DVD ’cause its hilarious.

Pretty good if I do say so. I quit Papa John’s. I work up at Ruby Tuesday now as a server. On the 24th of this month I have surgery. Not because I’m sick or anything. I’m getting boobies. Yes, finally I am getting boobies. That’s the dish on my life and what’s new. I hope you enjoyed.

Well, I’m preparing for my overseas holiday in September. Stuff like booking flights and rail passes and arranging for cat sitting and ooo! – a cruise to St. Petersberg! I haven’t been overseas since 1996 and I have a relative in London. This is all possible because of my folks dying and leaving me a bit of money. I know they’d be happy I’m using some of it for a cool trip! I’m flying to Montreal to meet another writer before going to England also. A weekend in Montreal. I just bought a 12 inch iBook which I haven’t set up yet. That’s going to be for my trip too. A real extravagance for sure. Although, from what I’ve heard, a lot of people have them as well as having a computer. Other than that, work is work and always there which is a good thing.

I just returned from Baja Mexico. My wife won a five-day trip to Cabo San Lucas, a beautiful ocean-side resort at the very end of the Mexican Baja Peninsula. The temperature hit about 85 degrees every day. We sat around drinking Margaritas and fruit and rum drinks, watching the waves crash against the craggy black rocks in front of our hotel. At night, we would go into town and buy colorful little souvenirs–tiny pink and purple toy turtles with heads that bobbed back and forth in strings attached to the insided of their shells–eat Mexican food and drink in the local bars. We went to one place called El Squid Roe in which a waitress sold us Jell-O shots and twisted our nipples painfully (which we did not know about in advance) as we tried to swallow the bright wiggly circles.

I have two children and my 10-year-old son just convinced us to get him a trombone. Now my home is filled with the offkey sounds of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" on the trombone.

We live near Boston, so we’re getting ready to go to a couple of Red Sox games. We got some good seats from a friend, so we’re excited to grab a few hot dogs and some salty popcorn, sit in the stands, and watch a little baseball on a Saturday afternoon.

I’m preparing for some surgery in September. Even though I’m only in my early forties, I have severe arthritis in my left hip. All the cartilage that separates the hip from the pelvis is worn away from a lifetime of martial arts, weightlifting and excess body weight (I used to be 120 pounds overweight). I have a constant limp and can barely reach my left foot to get a sock on or tie a shoelace. I am getting my entire left hip replaced with a prosthetic. My doctor tells me that it will be like I never had arthritis (after 8 weeks of recovery and physical therapy).

Good luck with your treatment. I have been reading your blog for a few weeks and look forward to your full recovery and future entries.

I wnet to Destin Florida for my cousins wedding. Got to play in the surf with the wee ones and eat lots of Alaskan snow crab legs(I LOVE crab legs). We also got to visit with the family and I danced with my daughters at the reception(not a pretty sight). Glad to hear that your almost in the clear. Hopefully you’ll be feeling better soon, so I can take you and Chris to the movies.
